  • Pet Care

  • Preventative Care

As part of our mission statement, our entire team is devoted to ensuring we provide all the information you need to make the right decisions to keep your pet companions as healthy as possible. On every visit, we will do a full examination and thoroughly evaluate each pet’s history to ensure the best recommendations are made. A wellness examination will include evaluating which vaccines are necessary, reviewing the best options for parasite prevention, weight management, and dental care.

We encourage examinations every 6 months, because many disease conditions can progress very quickly. We will tailor which blood and urine tests are best for your pet’s age, and clearly explain when additional tests like blood pressure measurement, x-rays, or fecal testing are necessary.

  • Pet Diagnostic

  • Diagnostics

We love pets and we love helping sick pets get better even more. Our Huntington Beach veterinary team is well-trained to quickly obtain the test results we need to diagnosis and treat your pet’s condition.

Our pet hospital is equipped with a fully digital radiology unit (digital x-ray machine). We can obtain very detailed images quickly, and can utilize over-the-internet radiology specialists to review x-rays when needed. We have the ability to perform ultrasounds in the hospital. An ultrasound is non-painful, and generally, no sedation is necessary. We can perform ultrasounds of the heart or the abdomen, showing amazing detail of various organs including the liver, kidneys, adrenal glands, and the bladder.

  • Pet Surgical

  • Surgical Services

Huntington Beach Pet Hospital is fully equipped to do most soft tissue and orthopedic surgeries. We understand your concerns about the risks of anesthesia, and utilize the most updated monitoring equipment to help alleviate these concerns. Equipment includes pulse oximetry, which helps to evaluate the oxygen saturation of the blood, doppler blood pressure monitoring and ECG.

A tailored anesthetic protocol is prepared for every patient. This personalized approach includes careful selection of which sedative drugs are used prior to inducing anesthesia, pain management medications, antibiotic selection, and fluid therapy during the surgery to help maintain adequate blood pressure.

  • Pet Laboratory

  • Laboratory

Our pet hospital is equipped with in-house laboratory testing. Our Lasercyte and Catalyst equipment is state-of-the-art for evaluating blood panels. We can also perform urine and fecal tests, obtain various cytology or biopsy samples, and we utilize multiple reference laboratories for more specialized testing. We can also perform in-hospital testing for canine parvovirus, feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), feline leukemia (FeLV), pancreatitis, heartworm testing, and tick-borne diseases.

  • Pet Boarding

  • Boarding

You can trust the Pet Hospital team to look after your pet companions when you are gone. Our facility is separated in two sections, enabling us to completely separate our feline guests from our canine boarders. All cages and runs are completely indoor and temperature controlled. As a veterinary hospital, we have the ability to more carefully monitor your pet’s health, as well as, administer any necessary medications. Our feline patients are also kept in a room maintained with Feliway pheromone to help reduce any anxiety during their stay.

    Requirements for boarding

To ensure the safety of all our guests, we have established the following minimum preventative care standards to help ensure your companions are free from any contagious diseases.
We require proof of updated vaccinations or we can update them on admission to the hospital. If you are aware that any of the following services are due, please schedule an appointment ideally no less than 48 hours before your pet’s day of boarding. Please call us for assistance in determining if a vaccination needs to be updated.

    • Current Bordetella (Kennel Cough) vaccination for dogs (we require only annually)
    • Fecal testing within 1 year required for dogs

  • Pet Hospice

  • Hospice Care

As our pet companions age, it is very difficult knowing they may be in pain due to various ailments including intervertebral disc disease (problems in the spine) and degenerative joint disease. Dr. Lewis devotes substantial continuing education hours to ensure he can recommend the best options for extending your companions quality of life.

Our team is here to help you decide when euthanasia is the best decision. You are not alone, and we want to make this process as easy, gentle, and peaceful as possible. For over a decade, Dr. Lewis has utilized a two-step protocol, to ensure your companion is sleeping prior to euthanasia. When needed, we also have several pet loss support referral sources that can assist you during this difficult time.
